Use of a Reflectance Spectrophotometer in Evaluating Shade Change Resulting from Tooth-Whitening Products

概要:
Historically, shade change assessment associated with vital bleaching treatment regimens has been visually evaluated through the use of shade guide tabs. Innovations in the industry of dentistry have brought forth new technologies capable of measuring such changes via the capture and analysis of reflected wavelengths of light. Clinical Significance This article introduces the use of a 45/0 reflectance spectrophotometer and identifies the advantages and limitations associated with such a technology in the assessment of shade change owing to vital bleaching.

The Status of Tooth Whitening Techniques 1999
Tooth whitening of vital teeth continues to have a major impact on the practice of dentistry. The growing public interest in having whiter, brighter teeth is clearly evident in the advertisements from toothpaste manufacturers on "whitening" formulations of their products and by the number of individuals seeking whitening procedures from their dentists. In addition, new over-the-counter whitening products continue to emerge in a marketplace that cannot seem to get teeth white enough, bright enough, fast enough.
