There is rarely a day that clinicians do not have to deal with an extraction site. If implant therapy is a consideration, then bone and soft tissue quantity and quality must be factored into treatment options. The ideal opportunity for bone preservation exists at the time of tooth extraction. All too often this opportunity is lost. Extraction techniques will be demonstrated that not only preserve but augment the amount of alveolar bone. The importance of piezosurgery, atraumatic surgical technique, the use of bone grafts, resorbable membranes and growth factors will be elucidated along with soft tissue enhancement.

Surface Technologies
The NanoTite™ Implant
The NanoTite Implant represents BIOMET 3i’s most recent advanced dental implant surface technology since the introduction of the OSSEOTITE® Implant in 1996. The NanoTite Implant is the patented OSSEOTITE Dual-acid etched Surface, which is then further treated with a deposition of nanometer scale crystals of calcium phosphate. This is known as the Discrete Crystalline Deposition Process or DCD™ Process. The surface treatment is a discrete crystalline deposition on the OSSEOTITE Surface, not a plasma sprayed coating.
The synergistic effect of these two technologies, the OSSEOTITE Surface and DCD Process, has demonstrated promising results in animal studies. It is also the present focus of numerous prospective human research projects. Because of this synergistic effect, a more complex microsurface is created. Preclinical studies demonstrated that the NanoTite Surface treatment, when compared to OSSEOTITE Control Implants, significantly improves the rate and extent of bone to implant contact and results in statistically significant enhanced integration.
